David Beckham – long live the king of men’s hair styles

Love him of hate him, David Beckham, deserves a pat on the back and a chance to put his feet up.  Beckham was the first English player to score at three World Cups, awarded the title of ‘Officer in the Order of the British Empire’ by the Queen, ambassador of everything from Burger King to H&M underpants, and, most importantly (well to us anyway), he was an advocate of the gents haircut!

Here’s our guide to some of Beckham’s haircuts over his 19 year career, so you can get some of Beckham’s hair style tips yourself. Remember, your barber should take into consideration your face shape, hair texture, hair line when you are trying a new cut. There are (more times than not) variations on these cuts that will help you to achieve Beckham’s different looks.

Old School

David Beckham - old schoolAccording to the latest fashion trends, the 90’s are back. This ‘grunge look’ can be achieved by towel drying the hair, applying Ruffians Texturising Putty and leaving the hair to dry naturally.

The Short of it…

This shorter style is a great example of texture through the top of the hair and fading though the sides and back.

It can be achieved by blow drying the hair forward and applying Ruffians Rough Matt Clay to the roots of the hair. This cut needs to be maintained every 2-3 weeks to keep it looking sharp.

…and the Long of it.

It’s difficult to deny the versatility of these longer locks. From middle partings to cornrows, and a whole array of ponytails, you name it, Beckham did it…

We would recommend using Ruffians Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner which contains no parabens, sulphates or artificial colours to help keep your hair in top condition.

From Mohawk to Faux-hawk

A real twist on the short back and side is the Mohawk. This look is not just for crazies, the cut particularly suits people with a high hair line because it lowers the contrast between the skin and depth of hair on top; the longer the hair on top, the higher the contrast.

To mould the hair to the desired style, Ruffians Rough Matt Clay can be worked into the hair for a natural hold.

Textured

This cut is short and relaxed in its style and particularly great for hair that has a slight wave. For a more textured sporty look, the hair could be cut shorter.

Maintenance for this cut is recommended every 5 to 8 weeks and styling just requires Ruffians Texturising Putty worked through towel dried hair.

 Slicked Back

Beckham’s look of the moment a top heavy, disconnected cut with a square silhouette.

For a ‘just out of the shower’ look, towel dry, distribute Ruffians Texturising Putty with a comb and leave to dry naturally. For a more formal look, dry hair using a hairdryer directing the hair back with your fingers. Distribute a little Ruffians Rough Matt Clay into the roots and you’re ready to go!

ruffians’ first birthday party – the photographs

We couldn’t let our first birthday go past without a party, so last Thursday we celebrated it, in style, with a few of our friends and our customers, who have helped and supported us over the last 12 months.  We roped in a few of our friends to help us have an awesome and memorable evening, namely: Caledonian Brewery proving the drinks, mixologist and potent cocktails, Barry Bryson and his award winning c{ate}r team who served the food, legendary DJ’s JOAN who provided the playlist and music and Ian J. Fallon for the photography!

A special mention to ShirtbyHand too, who shared the party with us, to celebrate their launch in Edinburgh.  They put on a catwalk show that included a selection of Scotland and Edinburgh’s finest rugby players, including David Denton, Stuart McInally, Sep Visser and Matt Scott, all modelling their new tailor made range, along with the beautiful Cat Sinclair, Amy Benton, Elly Summers and Stef Olletti-Zonetti!

I think it is safe to say there we’re a few sore heads in the various offices around Edinburgh last Friday!

It’s a bit of a David versus Goliath style of awards, where we are up against the likes of Gillette, Nivea, Wilkinson Sword and King of Shaves, but we’re not going to let those biggies intimidate us.  No! We’re small and independent, which means we have really taken on board what our customers have asked for in a product range, and this scrub is a direct result of that feedback!  We may only have £17.38 (roughly!) in the marketing budget but we can still hold our weight at the top level!

Anyhow, if you want help us in the competition and for Ruffians to stand out with award winning products then please vote for us. Thank you.
